Marc-Alain Ouaknin, son of Chief Rabbi Jacques Ouaknin (Reims, Lille, Metz, Marseille) is a French philosopher and Associate Professor at Bar-Ilan University (Comparative literature). A specialist in the philosophy of Emmanuel Lévinas, Rabbi Ouaknin’s books have been translated in more than 20 languages. Works translated into English include The Burnt Book and Reading the Talmud (Princeton University Press). He is currently co-director of The Targoum Project (a new annotated French translation of the Tanakh) with Françoise-Anne Ménager and Emmanuel Dyan.
